SOURCES.AFRICA

Four models, one technology

Technology available for household, neighbourhood, farm and generator configurations. First Sources.Africa deployments are in preparation - labels distinguish technology from install stage.

Home model

Home model

Technology available

Clean cooking at household scale.

A 200 L drum installed in under a day. Enough for a family's daily cooking, with enough digestate left over for 50-100 m2 of vegetable garden.

Best-fit health & clean-air use (design intent)

Best fit for wood/charcoal-dependent households - especially those with children, pregnant women, older adults or chronic respiratory vulnerability. Household exposure monitoring can be added.

Capacity
200 L
Feedstock
2-4 kg/day
Output
1-2 h cooking/day
Users
Household (4-8 people)
Residential model

Residential model

Technology available

Neighbourhood, school, clinic or shared kitchen.

A 1 m3 digester shared across 5-10 households or community facilities. Cuts the collective energy bill and produces liquid digestate for nearby fields.

Best-fit health & clean-air use (design intent)

Three useful configurations: community kitchen, school feeding kitchen, clinic resilience hub - each with usage tracking and safeguarding requirements.

Community kitchen - school kitchen - clinic hub

Capacity
1 m3
Feedstock
10-20 kg/day
Output
5-8 h cooking/day
Users
Neighbourhood / shared kitchen / clinic
Farm model

Farm model

Technology available

The self-sufficient farm.

A 5 m3 digester fed with manure and crop residues. Covers cooking, hot water, and sometimes small-scale electricity. Fertilizes multiple hectares.

Best-fit health & clean-air use (design intent)

Reduces smoke exposure for farm workers, improves organic-waste handling, and delivers clean-cooking co-benefits to nearby households.

Capacity
5 m3
Feedstock
50-100 kg/day
Output
Cooking + small electricity
Users
Farm operation
Biogas + Generator

Biogas + Generator

Technology available

Biogas turned into electricity.

A biogas digester coupled with a biogas-fuelled generator to produce on-site electricity - for lighting, water pumps, cold-chain and small businesses - alongside clean cooking gas and bio-fertilizer.

Best-fit health & clean-air use (design intent)

Service continuity for clinics (lighting, refrigeration, essential equipment) within certified power capacity - no claims beyond installed capability.

Capacity
5-10 m3
Feedstock
80-150 kg/day
Output
Electricity + cooking
Users
Farm - clinic - mini-grid

Performance assumptions

Capacity, feedstock and cooking-time figures are design envelopes for planning, not universal guarantees. Actual gas output depends on feedstock quality, temperature, loading discipline and maintenance. First Sources.Africa field results will replace estimates only when measured.

The energy modules

Renewable energy roadmap

Everything below is labelled. Technology available = established biogas tech that can be procured. Deployments in preparation = first Sources.Africa installs not yet live. Future module = not pilot-ready yet.
